Ravelry Day!

I got my Ravelry invite today!  I can already tell it’s going to suck my life away.  Anyway, I have no idea what I’m doing, so if anyone wants to take pity on me and say hi, I’m Yarnzombie over there, too.

I was looking through some of the different groups they have over there and thought of the best slogan and group name ever – “Knitters For Nader – Unsafe at Any Gauge”!  So if there’s any knitting/Nader fans out there, feel free to steal that from me.  Yeah, I think I’m going to stay away from starting any groups for the foreseeable future.

I’m not quite sure I understand how the whole yarn/stash thing works.  When I was putting in some of my projects where I had used handspun, it told me not to make an entry for my own handspun yarns.  But then I went to the spinning groups, and there were all these pictures of handspun yarn, and now I’m all confused.  I’m not really interested in taking photos of all of the yarn I have – mainly because although I’ve accumulated a healthy amount, I rarely buy commercial yarn.  However, I’m all about handspun yarn porn, and I’m not sure how that gets inputted into Ravelry.

Time to work on the Spiral Boot Sock some more.  I’m hoping to be finished with the first sock today.  I had been knitting it while watching a marathon of the 4400 (cheesy sci-fi cheesiness!), but now I’m out of episodes, so I’ve got to figure out something else.  I started watching Dexter, but I’m not too into that yet.  Mainly because that’s a “real” TV show and not just some summer throwaway trash like everything else I’ve been watching lately.

  1. consider yourself “friended”. hehehe um, i think you can put stuff in your stash that’s handspun and you don’t really have to fill in every detail about it. so you can still show it off without entering it as a line of yarns. you’d just give it a name (i don’t even know if it has to have that, but you have to start it as a new yarn) and then add your photos from flickr. you aren’t obligated to fill in the weights and the colors and each little detail… but since i didn’t put in any of the handspun i have (very little and it’s not my own – i never have!)… i don’t know. but i’m excited you got your invite! 🙂

  2. you can ether upload pictures of your handspun to your stash and just label it “handspun” or if you want to put pictures in the group threads it is like adding photos to other forums. Just click on the image icon and give it the photo url, it does the rest. *rushing off to friend you*

  3. Yay! Another knitter who likes the 4400!! I found it to be an extremely awesome show, and I can’t wait until the DVD sets come out. MUST 4400… I’m envious about Ravelry. When does it open for the general public?

  4. Yay for the 4400! Like I said, I think it’s kind of cheesy sometimes, but it can be pretty damn entertaining. And River from Firefly is in it, too, so it instantly got cool points from me for that. 🙂 I have no idea when Ravelry is going to open up to everyone. From what I gather, it’s just 2 people that are working to pull the whole thing together, and they don’t want everything to crash, so they’re just adding new people and new features a little at a time. It’s pretty nifty, though.

  5. PS make sure you email Jess about being one of the masterminds behind the Cider Moon yarns so she can add you as a designer and a yarnie.
